The coronavirus pandemic has thought many of us that working out at home might not be as impossible as imagined. Granted, training in a gym environment usually has less distractions and one would have access to a wider selection of machinery and weights.
Nonetheless some of you who are always on the go and might find it difficult to make it to the gym can opt to work out once at the comfort of your home. One can buy some basic weights and some home based equipment or even set up a fully-fledged home gym – If the health bug gets you, you will do it! -. If you do not want to go in the expense of buying gym equipment one can opt to train using body weight exercises and whatever items one can find at home. Nowadays there is an endless choice of bodyweight exercises to be able to create workouts to suit all levels of fitness.
Here is a quick core workout session which can be done by anyone and anywhere, no matter one’s level of fitness.
Warming up:
3 sets if one minute jogging on the spot with intervals of 10 seconds each of quick feet, high knees and butt kicks. For people with knee problems or who are overweight I advise marching instead of jogging and just lifting knees and eventually heels. This way you reduce excessive impacts on your knees.
Superset 1 – 1-3 sets (depending on fitness level); 10 repetitions each exercise
- Good mornings
- Forward lunges (if one is obese or has problems with knees change these for basic squats with the support of a chair to assist)
Superset 2 – 1-3 sets (depending on fitness level); 10 repetitions each exercise
- Crunches
- Oblique crunches
Superset 3 – 1-3 sets (depending on fitness level);
- Plank – minimum 30 seconds. Add duration according to your level of fitness
- Reverse leg raise – take 3-4 seconds to go down holding for another 1-2 seconds at the end before tucking in to restart.
- Finish of with the bird dog pose
